What is a brushless DC motor?
A brushless Direct Current electric motor (also known as an electronically commutated (EC) motor or ‘synchronous DC motor’) is a synchronous motor powered by a direct current electric power supply. BLDC (EC) motors require an electronic controller to switch DC currents to the motor windings, producing magnetic fields which effectively adjust the phase and amplitude of the DC current pulses.
Advantages of brushless BLDC motors
The use of an electronic controller enables very precise control over the speed and torque of the motor and is a zero-maintenance alternative to the mechanical commutator system used in many other types of electric motor.
Brushless DC motors, as their name implies, have no commutator brushes and therefore require no maintenance. They deliver high starting torque, good speed regulation and offer excellent efficiency. They also offer excellent power density and quiet operation.
