How Parvalux Design Electric Motors for Challenging Environments

All of the motors designed and manufactured by Parvalux, are guaranteed to deliver consistent performance even in the most challenging and unpredictable environments. Whether this is a marine wiper system which battles daily sea spray and salt water, or an industrial machine exposed to continuous dust and debris, the level of performance and durability is the same.

At Parvalux, we’ve spent decades engineering solutions that keep working where others may fail. A prime example is our VIPER3 motor, developed in partnership with Hepworth Marine. This motor demonstrates how careful design, robust materials, and rigorous testing can create a motor built for even the harshest conditions.

Battling the Elements

The most common challenge which electric motor manufacturers have to face are natural elements: wind, rain, salt water, extremes in temperatures (low and high) and fluctuating humidity. This goes double for the marine and the transportation industries whose motors often have to function through all of these elements with the addition of shock and vibrations. The VIPER3, a compact IP67-rated geared motor, has been designed specifically for marine and transportation applications where exposure to water, salt, and vibration is inevitable. The IP67 certification means the motor is fully protected against dust as well as being able to withstand immersion in water up to one metre deep for as long as 30 minutes – essential for equipment that operates outdoors or in wet environments. The IP67 rating is obtained by our engineers ensuring:
  • Precision sealing – Every joint, gasket, and seal on the motor is designed in order to prevent water or particulate intrusion.
  • Corrosion-resistant materials – Housings and fasteners are treated or constructed to resist corrosion, ensuring long service life even in salt-laden atmospheres.

Rigorous Testing

Obtaining the IP rating is only part of the process our engineers have to go through to get the motors to market. One of the key processes is the rigorous testing that is carried out, in order to ensure the motor exceeds the IP standards requirements. Our testing regime subjects the VIPER3 to:
  • Thermal cycling – this simulates temperature changes from icy mornings to hot engine compartments.
  • Vibration and shock testing – by replicating the movement and jolts experienced in marine and transportation applications we can test the durability of the motor.
  • Ingress and pressure testing – this confirms seals and enclosures remain effective over time.

Durability and Reliability

At Parvalux we pride ourselves on the reliability and durability of all of our motors. For those which operate within harsh and hostile environments this is more than about protection; it’s also about consistent performance under challenging conditions. The VIPER3 integrates a high-efficiency DC motor and precision-engineered gearbox in order to deliver dependable torque output under variable loads. Additionally each unit is built and tested to exacting standards, ensuring long-term reliability with minimal maintenance. This means when purchasing a Parvalux motor you are also buying confidence. Confidence that critical mechanisms such as marine and rail windscreen wipers will keep moving – day after day, season after season, whatever the weather or speed of the locomotive.
