World Environment Day 2026

Friday the 5th of June is World Environment Day, which we felt was an ideal opportunity to look back at what we have achieved at Parvalux in the past year, in our journey towards a greener future.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is Climate Action, which emphasises that now is the time for action and for positive contributions towards tackling the problem of climate change.

This means it is time to accept the current climate situation and be proactive in doing whatever we can as individuals and as corporations to “step in, to move further, to steer a world already in motion.”[1]

Here at Parvalux, we have heard the cry and are proud of what we have achieved in the past twelve months to improve the environmental impact of our operations here in Poole, UK. We know there is more work to do but every step should be celebrated.

Taking Climate Action

ISO 14001 Certification

At the end of May 2025, Parvalux achieved Environmental Management System ISO 14001 Certification and have maintained the standard for the past year.

Achieving this standard will have a major environmental impact on our business through a number of aspects of the manufacturing process from metal machining, coatings and paint, transportation, waste streams, and supply chain activities.

The ISO 14001 certification demonstrates how we are actively working towards managing and improving the environmental impact our operations have.

The certification requires a number of actions including monitoring electricity usage, setting waste reduction targets, land-fill reduction targets with an increase in recycling, improving efficiency, as well as further consideration of renewable energy. Our new HQ in Poole has 1,500 solar panels so we are already committed to this and are looking for ways to improve.

The EMS certification also requires improved management of toxic chemicals including safe storage, spill prevention, environmental assessments, and safe disposal.

Achieving this certification, not only improves our business credentials and makes us more competitive as well as lowering our operating costs but more importantly it will reduce our carbon footprint in the long run and demonstrates our ethical waste management and manufacturing processes.

Waste Reduction

As part of our ISO 14001 certification, we set a target to reduce our general waste by 10% on last years’ figure (2024).

However, the team at Parvalux really embraced the challenge, and we have reduced our waste by 13%. In 2024 we produced 25.3 tonnes of waste which we reduced to 22.1 tonnes in 2025.

There is still work to be done but this is a sterling job, and we are really proud of the team for making this change.

Energy Consumption Reduction

We also set the target of reducing our energy consumption by 10% on last years’ (2024) figure. To achieve this, we set a KPI of kWh / Top Level produced.

In the year 2025, we have had a mixed result. We have consumed 7% less energy which is a little lower than our goal of 10% but conversely, we used 10% more energy per Top Level. There is clearly more work to do to reach this goal, but a 7% reduction in energy consumption shows we are on the right track.

Parvalux people – an interview with Paul Bascombe

In the late 1940s, the world was a very different place; a world war had decimated the manufacturing industry across Europe. For years, ‘make do and mend’ had been the norm; it was considered a better option to repair something, rather than throw it away. So in 1947, Leslie Clark started a business rewinding motors. … Continued
