Senior Production Engineer

Key Responsibilities 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive production documentation, including work instructions, process flows, PFMEAs, machine setup sheets, and autonomous maintenance (TPM) schedules. 
  • Design and implement jigs, fixtures, and tooling using CAD software (SolidWorks) to enhance assembly efficiency, repeatability, and ergonomics. 
  • Optimise production line layouts using CAD tools (AutoCAD) to improve workflow, reduce waste, and maximise space utilisation. 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by applying Lean and Six Sigma 
  • Have a thorough understanding of how to determine process capability using SPC tools 
  • Provide technical support to production teams, troubleshooting process and equipment issues to minimise downtime and maintain output targets. 
  • Lead and support the training of production trainers, ensuring consistent application of quality, safety, and operational standards. 
  • Conduct process audits and line assessments to ensure compliance with internal procedures and external regulatory requirements. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain and improve product quality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Design and develop test equipment and validation procedures to ensure product performance meets defined specifications. 
  • Lead process standardisation and automation projects to improve consistency, reduce variability, and increase throughput. 
  • Evaluate and implement emerging manufacturing technologies to enhance production capabilities and maintain competitive advantage. 
  • Monitor production capacity and identify bottlenecks, recommending and implementing solutions to optimise resource utilisation. 
  • Conduct cost estimation and time studies for new and existing processes, ensuring ERP (Priority) routings reflect actual production performance. 
  • Lead capital equipment selection and justification, including ROI analysis, specification, procurement, and implementation. 
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment, proactively identifying and mitigating risks. 
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations and internal company policies. 
  The Right Person:  This position requires the following key skills and attributes:  Essential  
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical, Production or Manufacturing Engineer in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing environment. 
  • HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Industrial, or Production Engineering. 
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. 
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks) for tooling, fixture design, and technical drawings. 
  • Skilled in time management, with excellent communication and collaboration abilities. 
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Priority) for managing BOMs, routings, and work order planning. 
  • Proficient in change management, including the ability to propose and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to improve quality and efficiency. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of presenting technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Proven experience in designing robust & lean manufacturing processes. 
Desirable 
  • Experience with Electro-mechanical assemblies, gear design, castings, and injection moulding. 
  • Experience of National Instruments LabVIEW and DAQ equipment. 
  • Experience of electro-mechanical products. 
  • Experience of flowline manufacture beneficial. 
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing techniques for tooling, fixtures, or product development. 
  • Green Belt Six-Sigma or higher
