Intermittent periodic duty with short on-off cycles, expressed in terms of a X% on-time. The remainder of the time (off) it must be stationary and not powered. The on-time must not be long enough to allow the motor to overheat. The effective thermal load torque of X% duty cycle corresponds to the load torque during the on-time multiplied with √( X/100). A motor capable of operating at the stated load for the percentage of time stated must have a continuous torque larger than this calculated load torque.
